Heat insulation
With low thermal conductivity, glass fabric is highly valued
in building material applications, industrial adiabatic components
and pipe system for replacement of asbestos.
Fire-protection
As a mineral fiber, glass fabric is generally incombustible,
it neither propagates nor supports a flame. When exposed to
heat it neither emits flame nor toxic products. Glass fabrics
have increasingly become recognized as an essential fire fighting
materials. It can be made as fire extinguish blankets and curtains
in industrial and personnel protection. At the same time, basalt fiber and carbonized fiber products attract so much attention because of their high performance in hot work operations.
Electrical insulation
Most application in electrical industry based on its excellent
electrical insulation, mechanical strength and behaviour, dimensional
and thermal stability even at low thickness, combined with various
thermoset epoxy resin and treatment, glass fabrics has its first
application in this area.
Industrial conveyer-belt under high temperature
With low elongation under high temperature and tensile strength,
glass fabrics contributes industrial conveyer-belt an excellent
size stability and performance.
Molten metal industry
Glass fabrics have been successfully applied in molten metal
industry such as aluminum and alloys as filtration for years.
With higher temperature resistance after special treatment with
acid, high silica glass fabrics show excellent performance in
iron and some other molten metal filtration application.
Fiber reinforcement
High strength, mechanical performance and easy fabrication make
glass fabrics widely used in many industries, specially in reinforcement
materials and structures with thermosetting resin composites,
where high strength, low weight and part reliability are necessary
design criteria. Basalt fiber and carbon fiber products are increasingly used in this field and construction engineering.
Coated fabrics
Glass fiber fabrics are coated with a variety of thermoset resins
and rubbers for use in flexible air ducts, air supported structures,
conveyer belts, welding curtains, ceiling board facing, pipe
jacketing and the like. With different resin or rubber such
as PTFE, PVC, PU, EVA, graphite, vermiculite, ceramic, silicones,
Viton, EPDM coated or finished, glass fabrics contribute outstanding
performance like chemical resistance, anti-fray, thermal resistance
and heat resistance for most industrial and military applications.
